Anna Nicole Smith's Daughter's Modeling Tribute to Mom

ABC News' Lindsey Davis, Santina Leuci and Sabina Ghebremedhin report:

Dannielynn Birkhead, the 6-year-old daughter of the late Anna Nicole Smith, is following in her model mom's footsteps, becoming the new face of Guess Kids. Her father Larry Birkhead said modeling is a way for Dannielynn to connect with the mom she never knew.

"Dannielynn has always looked up to her mom's image and … I think that this is kind of Dannielynn's way of paying tribute to her mom in her own special way," Birkhead said in an interview with " Good Morning America."

Birkhead has raised Dannielynn on his own since Smith died of a drug overdose in 2007 when their daughter was just 5 months old. Smith was 39.

"To see her mom's picture next to hers as a Guess girl and say, 'Hey, I was a Guess Kids girl, my mommy was a Guess girl,' that might be her only connection with her mom," he said.

Smith was catapulted to stardom after she landed a Guess Jeans campaign in the 1990s. While Dannielynn's look is more playful than her mom's sexy denim spread, she is the spitting image of her late mother.

Paul Marciano, the creative director for Guess Inc., released a statement describing Dannielynn as having the "same playful spirit" as her mother.

The Guess campaign is Dannielynn's first foray into modeling. Birkhead said she is a happy go lucky kid who attends regular school and models only for fun.

"My goal for her is for her to be a child and just do what all kids do," he said.

Dannielynn is not the only youngster taking after her mother by striking a pose. Recently, supermodel moms from Alessandra Ambrosio to Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington have strutted their stuff with their little girls in tow.

Dannielynn's Guess campaign also stars Peyton Edmunds, the daughter of music industry veteran Babyface. Their ads are set to appear as early as January 2013 in magazines, on billboards and on buses.
