  • One Gales Ferry, Conn., couple went from ashes to "I do" - all within one whirlwind of a week.

When Brian Osborne and Megan Hunley's home caught fire on April 14, leaving their entire house and the majority of their belongings completely destroyed, it put a lot of things into perspective for the couple who were planning to wed, but hadn't yet gotten officially engaged.

"A fire like that makes you think about life in a totally different perspective," Osborne, 34, told GoodMorningAmerica.com of the unexpected tragedy.

Instead of letting their tragic loss get the best of them, the couple found a way to remain positive throughout the situation, all thanks to one item that was recovered from the ashes.

"I had the fireman go back in to look for the ring," Osborne said of the engagement ring he had hidden inside the home to someday give Hunley. "I told him where it should be, and when he walked back out, it was in his hand. The top of the box was all melted, but the ring was perfect inside.

  • The Pennsylvania high school student suspended for interrupting a school assembly to ask Miss America to prom says he didn't mean to "disrespect" administrators who warned him against asking.

"When I heard that Miss America was coming, I just pitched an idea, like a funny joke," Patrick Farves, 18, and a student at Central York High School in York, Pa., told WCBS.

"They did call me down about 10 minutes before the presentation and they told me, 'That'd be inappropriate. Don't do it,'" Farves said.

Farves went ahead with his proposal, asking Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri to the school's prom in the middle of a talk on science, technology, engineering and math studies she gave at the school Thursday.

"I was nervous but when you're ready, you're ready. You just grasp the moment," Farves said.

School officials issued Farves a three-day suspension for his smooth moves because he ignored their advance warnings not to pull the stunt.

"It wasn't my direct intent to disrespect

  • Why Did Neil Patrick Harris Curse at Fan?

Neil Patrick Harris had a tart response for an overeager fan who interrupted a performance of his new Broadway show.

When a female theatergoer shouted out, "I love you, Neil," midway into his Saturday performance as the title character of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," Harris - without breaking character - responded, "I'm doing something up here, motherf*****."

The audience cheered, as the quip was taken all in good fun.

Harris' rep explained to Gossip Cop, "When the fan initially yelled, 'I love you, Neil,' Neil [as Hedwig] then responded, 'Who's Neil? I'm not Neil.' He then looked over at Yitzhak [played by Lena Hall] and said, 'Are you Neil? You better not be Neil.'"

That was followed by the headline-raising quote by the "How I Met Your Mother" alum.

  • Even though it may be dragging its feet, there's no denying spring is on the way. And to welcome it warmly, Spot Dessert Bar in New York City has created some seasonally inspired desserts that will have you doing a double-take.

The Harvest, Big Apple and Chocolate Terrarium are reminiscent of those crumbled Oreo "dirt" and jelly worm creations you ate as a kid.

The line of desserts was "inspired by Chef Kittichai's ideas of spring and seeing the new leaves and growth after winter and snow and the change of seasons," general manager Mark Lee said.

Here's a look at the dessert bar's three new nature-inspired treats, and a recipe to recreate one at home.

    The Harvest

Layers of mixed fresh berries, sponge cake, walnut "soil" and whipped cream topped with soft cheesecake and Oreo crumbs. Served with rose milk tea, raspberry sorbet and Oreo crumbs.

    Get the recipe here.

"This one was inspired by the Chef Kittichai's visits to various farmers' markets and the potted herbs he observed," Lee

  • ABC News' Becky Worley reports:

I love a good pedicure. But I have no idea what I'm looking for to make sure that pedicure doesn't give me a nasty infection. Our friends at ABC News' "20/20? went undercover to see how unsanitary some salons can be and the results scared me into learning how to protect myself.

I bring DeeDee Crossett of the San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology to my favorite salon in Oakland, Calif. Big-picture advice: Crossett says it's hard to know whether a place is unhygienic; it's much easier to look for signs that it is immaculate. Here are her tips to spot a super-clean salon.

Tip 1: Arrive 10 minutes early. You only need that much time to watch what happens between guests. Once a pedicure is done, Crossett says, disinfectant goes into the tub water and it must be circulated for a full 10 minutes before it's drained. Less than 10 minutes and the chemicals in the disinfectant can't break down bacteria and sanitize the foot bath. Also, she says, it

  • TV's Future Might Ride on Supreme Court Aereo Ruling

    Morning Money Memo:

The big question facing the U.S. Supreme Court this week: is Aereo Inc. legal? Thirty years ago, big media companies failed to convince the court of the threat posed by home video recordings. Now they're back, and trying to rein in a different innovation. Aereo, a start-up company, came up with the clever idea of taking free TV signals from the airwaves and sending them over the Internet to paying subscribers in about a dozen cities. Consumers pay $8 to $12 a month to "rent" antennas online. Broadcast companies are suing because, unlike cable and satellite firms, Aereo doesn't pay them a dime. But several lower courts have sided with Aereo. ABC, a division of the Walt Disney Co., is among the plaintiffs.

Corporate earnings are certain to sway the stock market this week. Apple, Microsoft and Facebook are among about 130 big names to announce quarterly results. If sales and profits come in better than expected, the stock market may be pushed higher. If not,

  • For as much as most people worry about their bodies and dieting, imagine if all of a sudden you couldn't eat foods that were a regular part of your diet, and as a result, you couldn't stop losing weight?

That's what happened to 1980's pop icon and the voice of the electric youth Debbie Gibson, who is opening up about her struggle with a painful condition she's been battling for more than a year.

"Last year I was diagnosed with Lyme disease," Gibson, 43, wrote on her blog last week. "It is an elusive disease that disguises itself as many other things and creates a lot of pain and discomfort along the way."

Gibson tells her fans she decided to go public after receiving countless comments on her seemingly rapid weight loss after posting pictures from her concerts in Santiago, Chile.

"I would come across comments about my weight and appearance," she wrote. "Some were just plain mean and ignorant. I want to urge you all… NEVER JUDGE… ANYONE! You never know what someone is going through."
