Baby Giraffe Is Newest Star at Dublin Zoo

A three-week old baby giraffe is the newest star at the Dublin Zoo and no one’s more smitten with the newborn calf than her mother.

A photographer captured an adorable moment of maternal bonding in the animal world between the baby girl and her mother, a Rothschild giraffe named Maeve. The newborn, who is already 6 feet tall, resembles her mom with her light tan coat.

Maeve gave birth to the girl on June 27 in the African Savannah and these newly-released photographs show the newborn in her habitat, according to the Irish Times. The baby girl joins a herd of ten giraffes at the Dublin Zoo’s African Plains, including her older sister Arria, who is two years old.

The newborn calf has yet to be named but the zoo is soliciting suggestions for the girl that relate to her African origin. Animal lovers can submit suggestions on the zoo’s Facebook page.
