Beyonce surprised the world, releasing her secretive visual album with absolutely no promotion.
Now, as that album dominates the Billboard 200 Chart for a third straight week, the singing superstar is revealing exclusively to " Good Morning America" just how she pulled off the epic surprise, all while balancing life as a new mom.
"We had so much fun," Queen B explains in this new video given to "GMA," openly talking about the process of making her secret album.
"I had a grand idea to invite all the writers I respected to the Hamptons," Beyonce said of the New York location where artists such as Hit-Boy, The-Dream and Sia, among others, collaborated to create ideas and lyrics for the ultimate album.
"We had dinners together, my family was there and I was breastfeeding with corn rows in my hair," she said.
Because Beyonce, 32, was spending so much time being a mother, she explained, she would take a few hours out of her day to record.
"In real life I was this woman, a mother, trying to get my focus and my dreams and myself back," she said. "And recording this album was such an outlet for me to escape and create whatever world and fantasy was definitely at the time not happening."
Beyonce says her almost 2-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, was the inspiration for many of her new songs, but also presented her with one of the greatest challenges, getting her famous physique back into shape.
"I was 195 pounds when I gave birth," she recalled. "I lost 65 pounds. I worked crazily to get my body back because I wanted to show my body. I wanted to show that you can have a child and you can work hard and you can get your body back."
Finding her sensuality, getting back into her body and being proud of growing up were important to her, Beyonce said, because she knows "there are so many women that feel the same thing after they give birth."
And her husband, hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, didn't seem to mind.
But most importantly, Beyonce said she hopes her album inspires women, whether you're a pop superstar or a stay-at-home mom.
"You can have your child, and you can still have fun and still be sexy and still have dreams and live for yourself," she said.
