"GMA" Bests "Today" by +661,000 Total Viewers- Attracting Largest Audience in Nearly Two Years

"GMA" Continues to Grow Year-to-Year and Season-to-Date in Demo and Total Viewers While "Today" Declines by Double-Digits

ABC News' "Good Morning America" won the week of January 21, 2013 in both Total Viewers (5.529 million) and Adults 25-54 (2.105 million) , according to Nielsen Media Research. "GMA" has ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers in all 17 weeks this season (regular telecasts) and in 13 of 17 weeks in Adults 25-54. In fact, "GMA" has ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers in the last 23 weeks and in 28 of the last 30 (behind "Today" only during the 2 weeks of the Summer Olympics). Further, "GMA's" 23-week streak at No. 1 marked its longest run in 20 years - since the 1992-93 season, w/o 11/9/92 - w/o 6/28/93. In addition, "GMA" has ranked No. 1 in the key adult news demo in 17 of the last 21 weeks.

Improving on the previous week in both measures for the 4th straight week, "GMA" attracted its largest Total Viewer audience in nearly 2 years - since w/o 4/25/11, the week of the royal wedding. Further, it was the ABC morning newscast's 2nd-largest weekly audience in over 6 years - since w/o 8/29/05. In addition, "GMA" turned in its best news demo performance in 11 weeks (since w/o 11/5/12), its 2nd best of the season (regular telecasts).

"GMA" outdelivered NBC's "Today" (4.868 million and 2.088 million, respectively) by+ 661,000 Total Viewers and by +17,000 Adults 25-54, leading the NBC morning program by its largest Total Viewer advantage since premiere week 4 months ago - since w/o 9/24/12.

"GMA" posted gains in both Total Viewers (+15%) and Adults 25-54 (+9%) year to year (4.817 million and 1.927 million, respectively on w/o 1/23/12), while NBC's "Today Show" (-12%/-16%) saw double-digit losses.

Season to date, "GMA" stands as the No. 1 morning news program in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. In fact, "GMA" is leading "Today" by its largest season margin in overall viewers (+512,000) in more than 21 years, and in the key adult news demo (+70,000) in 21 years - since at least the 1991-92 season and since the 1991-92 season, respectively; Nielsen's electronic database started on September of 1991.

Season to date "GMA" is up in both Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 25-54 (+2%) versus its year-ago averages, standing as the only morning newscast to grow in the key adult news demo (NBC's "Today" is down -15%/-22%, respectively; CBS' "This Morning" is mixed +5%/-2%, respectively). "GMA" is seeing its largest overall season audience in 7 years and best Adult 25-54 performance in 4 years - since the 2005-06 and 2008-09 seasons, respectively.

For the week, "GMA" nearly doubled the performance of "CBS This Morning" in Total Viewers (+93%) and Adults 25-54 (+88%). "GMA" delivered its largest Total Viewer lead (2.662 million) over the CBS program in over 4 months - since w/o 9/3/12 .
