Kate Middleton Goes Unrecognized in Shop Near Hometown

The Duchess of Cambridge may have one of the world's most recognizable faces, but apparently not near her hometown, and not in watersports stores.

That's where the future queen consort was shopping for a wetsuit at a beachside shop called Funsport in the tiny Anglesey resort of Rhosneigr near her and William's home in Wales.

Middleton had reportedly forgotten her money, and asked the owner, Dave Buckland, if she could put the items on hold until she could return to pay for them.

Buckland was satisfied with her suggestion, but failed to recognize the Duchess and asked her name. When she replied, "Mrs. Cambridge," the owner admitted he still wasn't making the connection.

"He was looking straight at her and actually commented that it was quite an unusual surname. He hadn't a clue who she was. She just smiled and said she'd be back," a source that witnessed the interaction told local papers.

Despite Buckland's failure to place Middleton, other staff in the store did recognize the duchess and made sure to inform him, The Daily Mail reports.

"He hasn't lived it down since," one source said.

Kate and Prince William have been living in a rented farmhouse near Rhosneigr for the past two years. He is based at nearby RAF Valley, WalesOnline.co.uk reported.
