Louis Van Amstel’s ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Dish: J.R. Martinez Delivered and Deserved to Win

Dancing With the Stars” pro Louis van Amstel blogs on season 13 of “DWTS.” The three-time world dance champion, who starred on seven seasons of the hit ABC show, weighs in on the dances, judges scores and who will be eliminated.

All three celebs in this final deserved to win for different reasons — Ricki Lake for consistency, J.R. Martinez for spirit and musicality, Rob Kardashian for most improved.

After all three couples danced their favorite dance of the season, it was the judges’ job to give their final scores. Rob came in third, J.R. scored second, and Ricki took first, which was a fair result. Ricki’s Tango was very solid, J.R.’s Jive was very rhythmical, and Rob was great, but not as good as Ricki or J.R. based on dance quality.

Ricki coming in third after the viewers’ votes were factored in was surprising because she has been very consistent all season and has become much more confident. Even though Rob improved beyond belief, I thought the top two was going to be between Ricki and J.R. Having said that, it doesn’t mean I’m saying Rob wouldn’t deserve to win.

The “DWTS” competition can be won with the Freestyle or having one great night in the last two weeks, but I think it’s only fair for you take all of the week’s performances into account before you make a decision on who should win. I believe “DWTS” is a marathon. Each week counts and in the end it’s about who had the best journey, who dances the best overall, and who has the most contagious personality throughout the season.

J.R. winning “DWTS” Season 13 is in my opinion the right choice because overall he was closest to having the whole package of a champion: talent, heart, his personal story, plus the difficulty level of the choreography Karina taught J.R.

J.R. and Karina’s choreography was more challenging than the other couples’, and J.R. did deliver. He also had a few ups and downs, which showed what he was truly made of. America saw that and voted for J.R.’s devotion.

Big congratulations to pro Karina Smirnoff for winning her first mirrorball trophy. I’m jealous, lol!
