Happy 40th birthday Egg McMuffin! In August of 1972, this fast food staple was created by a restaurant franchisee named Herb Peterson. Peterson created the sandwich based on his favorite breakfast item: Eggs Benedict. Ray Kroc, president of the franchise at the time, loved the creation and the McMuffin opened up the doors to a booming breakfast business.
