When John Chandler, a Dallas home cook, posted his lasagna recipe on AllRecipes.com 11 years ago, he never thought he'd be the author of the most popular recipe on the website. But with approximately 12 million views in the past five years alone, more than 12,000 likes, over 27,000 Pinterest shares, and close to 8,000 mostly 5-star reviews, Chandler's lasagna is quite the Internet sensation.
"It's a very simple, easy recipe that everyone can appreciate and that everyone has in their pantry the things to make this. You don't need a masters in cooking," Chandler said on" Good Morning America." "People have made it their own. They've changed it and added red wine or rosemary. It's not just my lasagna; everyone has shared in it."
Chandler's girlfriend at the time encouraged him to post the recipe online, and not wanting to simply call it "John's Lasagna," he settled on "World's Best Lasagna."
"I did not think much about it [at the time] and did not think it was the world's best, but named it tongue-in-cheek," Chandler said.
Fast-forward a few years when Chandler checked his post online and was startled to discover it was the website's number one recipe-and its popularity has only skyrocketed since.
"Here I am today: reprinted in countries all over the world and in many languages. Mentioned in the same sentence as Gordon Ramsay. Crazy," Chandler exclaimed. "And I am a man from the South who loves to grill and is not a foodie. Imagine that."Also Read
