People's Choice Awards 2014: Sandra Bullock Wins Big

ABC News' Shane Lou reports:

Sandra Bullock was a fan favorite at the 40th Annual People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles Wednesday night.

Bullock picked up the awards for favorite movie actress, favorite comedic movie actress, favorite dramatic movie actress and favorite movie duo with "Gravity" co-star George Clooney. In addition, her films "The Heat" and "Gravity" were named favorite comedic movie and favorite dramatic movie, respectively.

"The Big Bang Theory" star and former People's Choice Awards host Kaley Cuoco Sweeting earned favorite comedic TV actress honors. Her new husband, Ryan Sweeting, was in attendance, and she capped off her acceptance speech by thanking him. Referring to her award and then her hubby, Cuoco Sweeting said, "This is the second best thing that happened to me all year. The first was marrying you! I love you, baby!"

Cuoco Sweeting and her husband married on New Year's Eve. For the record, she was referred to as Kaley Cuoco during the ceremony, even though she's added his surname.

Favorite daytime talk show host winner Ellen DeGeneres may have had the funniest line of the night. The host of the upcoming Oscars ceremony explained to the audience that her talk show is intended for all audiences, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation. She then joked that she recently spoke with an African-American woman who "works 80 hours to get by, and she looks forward to coming home every single night and watching me. And that woman's name is Oprah Winfrey."

DeGeneres now owns 14 People's Choice trophies, more than any other woman.

Justin Timberlake and Katy Perry each won multiple awards in the music categories. As he accepted one of his prizes, Timberlake thanked his wife Jessica Biel for "for teaching me patience and the little things, like just putting the dishes in the dishwasher. It goes a long way. Fellas, you're welcome."

The two-hour show briefly turned emotional when a teary-eyed Jennifer Hudson was recognized as favorite humanitarian for her Julian D. King Gift Foundation, an organization benefiting children that's named after her slain nephew.

The CBS telecast began with a taped sketch in which the two hosts, "2 Broke Girls" actresses Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs, were on the set of their sitcom. In a nod to their waitress characters, they took orders for award wins from various TV stars, such as Cuoco Sweeting, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ian Somerhalder and Arsenio Hall. Christina Aguilera made a cameo as a third waitress.

The sketch continued with Dennings and Behrs hitching a ride to the People's Choice Awards with Bryan Cranston's "Breaking Bad" character, Walter White. The footage of Cranston appeared to be spliced in. During the opening monologue, Dennings joked of Behrs, "She's the Hathaway, I'm the Franco," referring to Anne Hathaway and James Franco's critically-panned performance as co-hosts of the 2011 Oscars.

The fan-voted ceremony, held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, featured musical performances by Sara Bareilles, OneRepublic and Brad Paisley.
