Teen Gets Date to Prom on 'GMA Live!'

Luckily for Andrew McEvoy, dangerous ice conditions caused school to be cancelled today in his hometown of Troy Mills, Iowa.

Otherwise the North Linn High School junior may not have been at his kitchen table watching " Good Morning America" when he saw his girlfriend's younger brother holding a sign with a very big question.

"Cassie, go to prom with me. - Andrew," the sign, decorated with a pink bow and pink streamers, read.

Cassie is Cassie Rawson, Andrew's girlfriend of two months and a freshman at North Linn High. The young boy holding the sign was Cassie's brother, Mitchell, who was visiting New York City with his mom, Barb.

"I thought I can't believe this is happening," Andrew said of seeing that his girlfriend's family had really gone through with their plan to have Cassie asked to the prom in a big way.

Andrew could never believe what happened next, when "GMA" weather anchor Sam Champion brought Mitchell and his mom into the Times Square studio for "GMA Live."

There, as Mitchell sat next to "GMA" anchor Lara Spencer and ABC News' David Muir, the show got Andrew and Cassie on the phone so that Andrew could do the asking himself.

"I can ask Cassie live," Andrew said on-air. "Cassie, would you like to go to prom with me?"

"I would," replied a very surprised Cassie, who noted she had just woken up "about 10 minutes ago."

With that, a prom date was made. ABCNews.com caught up with Andrew after the proposal to see what he and Cassie really thought of the on-air proposal.

"I've been texting her all morning," he said. "She said she had no clue that was coming and she was totally surprised and it made her day and she's glad I did it that way."

The pair have to wait until April for their school's prom but, in the meantime, there's another certain holiday approaching that Andrew has his eyes on.

"Valentine's Day is next," he said. "I'll get another cute present or a surprise or something. Hopefully it all works out good."

The couple have also vowed to tweet their prom photo to "GMA Live!."
