Victoria's Secret Model Quits to Reserve Body 'for My Husband'

One Victoria's Secret angel might be turning her back on lingerie modeling but she's not giving up her modeling wings.

Model Kylie Bisutti, 21, has decided to leave Victoria's Secret because it clashes with her Christian beliefs.

"I just became so convicted of honoring the Lord and my body and wanting to be a role model for other women out there who look up to me," Bisutti said today on "Good Morning America."

The California native beat out 10,000 hopefuls in 2009 to win the Victoria's Secret Model Search. She was 19 and recently married at the time.

But wearing the coveted angel wings and walking the runway with Adriana Lima and Miranda Kerr wasn't quite what Bisutti had hoped for.

"I was growing in my relationship with the Lord and my faith.  I'm a strong believing Christian," Bisutti told "GMA" of how her thoughts on the job she has described as her "absolutely biggest goal in life" began to change.

"It was more of just a heart issue for me," she said.

Though Bisutti has cited her husband and her desire to keep their marriage special as factors in her decision to leave her lingerie modeling days behind, she said the decision was hers alone.

"He was so, so supportive of me and I'm so thankful that he let me grow and let me come to this decision on my own," she said of her husband.

Bisutti's decision to leave the lingerie company was also spurred on by an encounter with her 8-year-old cousin.

"I was doing my makeup in the mirror one day and she was watching me," Bisutti said.  "She looked at me and was like, 'You know, I think I want to stop eating so I can look like you.'"

"It just broke my heart because she looks up to me and I didn't want to be that type of person that she thought she had to do that to be beautiful," she said.  "Thousands of girls that think that being beautiful is an outer issue and really it's a heart issue."

On Dec. 1, one day after the nationally televised Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, in which Bisutti didn't appear, aired, the model posted to her Twitter page, "For all of you that were looking for me in the Victorias Secret runway show this year, I wasn't in it. I have decided not to model lingerie Because I personally feel that I am not honoring God or my husband by doing it. My marriage is very important & with divorce rates rising I want to do everything I can to protect my marriage and be respectful to my husband. God graciously gave me this marriage and this life and my desire is to live a Godly faithful life, I don't however judge others for what they do. Everyone is convicted on different levels."

Bisutti says her headline-making decision does not mean she is giving up her modeling career altogether.

"I'm definitely going to pursue modeling," she said on "GMA."  "I just want to be more wholesome about it and the jobs that I am going to choose are always going to be honoring the Lord."

And I though God, if there is one, made things beautiful for the benefit of us all. "All things bright and beautiful, the lord god made them all". Guess he really wants us to use our imagination.

It is so refreshing to see a young couple understand the sacrament of marriage as a privelege, a grace, a calling by God. I'm so happy she heard Gods whisper in her heart and answered Him! What a blessing for young girls to have such a beautiful role model in this day when marriage is being attacked on so many different levels. She is a hero!

Amen! When I was reading other comments, other people said "why did she choose now to make the change?" or they would say "she is not a christian, she is a hipocrit." They would also say "Oh ya take the money and run, she is not a role model." I believe she is a role model for women and girls of all ages, because she chose God over her career, and God is her major priority in life. He makes things happen for everyone who believe in and most have a hard time seeing him do good because they can not give up the control. She made a powerful statement by choosing life.
Thank you so much for your post. God Bless

Some of you just don't understand...it's her decision, not yours. I respect her for making the right choice. It's her life and what she does with it has no concern of yours. She's not living her life for you guys. She's living it for God!

Please explain to me why this story is considered "NEWS" worthy? Please...give me a break. Really? If she was sincere with her decision then this young lady should have resigned privately and not make this matter public.

For what she had accomplished, how could she leave privately? People in the business want to know.

Umm...she isn't a Victoria's Secret Angel and she was never in the catalogs. She hasn't really accomplished anything, because she got to walk the VS runway once or twice. No one would have missed her if she left quietly or even noticed. She's a nobody.

Um I noticed her, i would not say she is a nobody...also for her to publicly say that she is a Christian takes a lot of courage, her story touched me in many ways and I am sure that God had intended for that to be the case. By the way so do you believe that everyone who is not utterly famous is a nobody? That sounds pretty harsh, judgmental, and unloving, by your own standards apparently you would be considered a "nobody" ----though i would not consider you so since I am sure you are a "somebody" who has a life and people who love you. Obviously i have a different perspective on life then you do, in my opinion being in a VS catalog does not make a person a "somebody" anymore then a young model with an up and coming career who walks the runway as the winner of a national modeling competition.

She's a remarkable woman for caring about the message she's sending to young girls. There's the tyranny of beauty, and she's making a conscious choice to use her power in a uniquely positive way. Hopefully, many in the modeling business will follow her example.

Good for you!!! I respect the decision and applaud you. I help teach a class at church for young girls, trying to teach them about modesty and purity. Too many people are willing to give in to society and not stand up for what they believe in. For you to realize now that this is not the right place for you is great!!! Way to stand true to your convictions. Don't listen to the negative people on here, it was a brave and courageous choice.

To the folks who have wondered why she didn't make this decision before, or are trying to downplay her decision by saying "I guess God wasn't so important back then...": Haven't you ever realized something was a bad choice, once you made it? Or haven't you matured to a point where you no longer desired the things to which you once held so tightly? Haven't you ever experienced the high that comes with achieving your goals, only to realize those dreams actually clouded your judgement? She is human, and I think she is accurate in saying "she is growing in the Lord." A relationship with God is just like any other relationship: It takes time to grow deeper and as time passes, you mature and have different perspectives.

Hats off to you! Society is so focused on outer beauty! I have 2 daughters and there is so much pressure from the media and peers to try to look a certain way - including being immodest! We have received a lot of flack from other parents for not allowing our daughters to wear bikini swimsuits! If more people would focus on inner beauty and respecting themsevles and eachother, we would be much better off! I bet your parents are also very proud of you for standing up for what you believe!

GOOD FOR HER!! I am so very proud of her for choosing God over the modeling industry. In my opinion the modeling industry does expose women and teens to an unforgiving society; we fight with how we look everyday, which makes us ask men how we look when we should believe in God, as well as ourselves. I pray that one day, we as women will know that we are loved not for our bodies, but for our beautiful hearts. God Bless every women and young lady out there.
