Zombie Apocalypse Warning Takes Over TV Station
Television viewers in Montana, perhaps looking to stay inside from the scary cold outside, got an even scarier surprise when warnings of a zombie apocalypse took over their TV screens.
Warnings that "dead bodies are rising from their graves" in several Montana counties interrupted the regularly scheduled programming of KRTV and the CW Monday afternoon, the station reported on its website.
The message warned zombies were "attacking the living" and warned people not to "approach or apprehend these bodies as they are extremely dangerous," according to the Associated Press.
The warnings, sent through the station's Emergency Alert System, however, were a false alarm.
"The message did not come from our station, and appears to be the result of a hacker," read the statement from KRTV. "Our engineers our looking into the origin of the alert to make sure a similar occurrence does not happen again."
A member of the KRTV news staff declined to comment today on the ghoulish surprise, but noted that while it interrupted an afternoon show it did not interrupt the station's news programming.
The station has not filed a criminal complaint to investigate the hoax and police received no "serious" calls as a result of the alert, Sgt. Bryan Slavik, public information officer for the Great Falls Police Department, told ABCNews.com.
