Get the Capitol look: 'Hunger Games' fashion and beauty

Much hyped sci-fi movie The Hunger Games looks set to top international box office records following its international release this week, although the designer costumes and far-out beauty looks featured on its dedicated Capitol Couture site prove its influence will stretch far beyond the realm of cinema.

Costume designer Judianna Makovsky, who previously worked on the Harry Potter films, has incorporated designs by Rodarte, Alexander McQueen and Jean Paul Gaultier into the movie and many of the most outlandish pieces are seen on Capitol escort Effie Trinket, played by Elizabeth Banks.

The character is also celebrated for her outrageous colored wigs, a look which has been embraced by the likes of style icon Nicki Minaj and model Kate Moss, who was photographed in a blue Marie Antoinette-style wig for the April edition of US Vogue.

Some of Effie’s other most covetable items include her gold Alexander McQueen peep-toe booties, while heroine Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) offers a more utilitarian style with her earth-tone attire and combat boots.

That isn't to say Katniss' attire is less inspiring, her ‘Girl on Fire’ dress has already been interpreted by designers including Tommy Hilfiger, Rachel Roy and Charlotte Ronson, who produced sketches of their vision of the dress for US InStyle.

In terms of beauty, purple shadow has been seen on the runways at shows including Cacharel and Chanel, and Effie has a penchant for the color too; with her heavy violet eye makeup, wild lashes and shocking lips. Katniss has a much more low-key beauty aesthetic, although the side plait she sports has been favored by the likes of Beyoncé Knowles, Clemence Poesy and Salma Hayek recently. Follow this guide by robertjonesbeauty on recreating Everdeen's fresh-faced look and hairdo: http://youtu.be/kPLuVD8UGNI

Fans of the book The Hunger Games will know that Katniss has flame nail art painted on her nails before her interview at the Capitol. With the increasing popularity of nail art, this is a look that's already caught the eye of nail art aficionados across the globe already.
