Jack White to livestream concert on YouTube, album streams on iTunes
American musician Jack White, of White Stripes fame, is set to kick off the release of his first solo disc with a livestream concert at New York’s Webster Hall to be directed by Gary Oldman.
The show will be the first installment in the third season of American Express's “Unstaged” series, which pairs major musical acts with renowned filmmakers. Though best known for his acting, Oldman directed the critically-acclaimed 1997 film Nil by Mouth.
White’s concert will be streamed live April 27 (9 pm ET) on YouTube and on mobile devices via VEVO and YouTube apps for iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Android.
The global event will come just three days after his album Blunderbuss (Third Man Records/Columbia) hits retailers on April 24. Currently fans can stream the album in its entirety on iTunes.
Last year, Coldplay performed for the American Express-sponsored series in Madrid, and the Anton Corbijn-directed video generated more than 19 million streams on YouTube. Prior Unstaged events have paired acts such as Arcade Fire, Mary J. Blige, and John Legend and the Roots with directors Terry Gilliam, Todd Haynes, and Spike Lee. The series has drawn more than 70 million streams.
White also just announced a handful of intimate sets in Europe and America, including a stop at La Cigale in Paris on April 22, followed by the HMV Forum in London on April 23.
