Michael Jackson's Doctor Conrad Murray Denied Bail

Dr. Conrad Murray, convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of pop icon Michael Jackson, will have to remain behind bars while he appeals his conviction, a judge said today.

Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor denied the request of Murray's attorneys to release him on bail while he appeals his four year sentence. Pastor called Murray a flight risk and a danger to society if he ever practiced medicine again, the Associated Press reported.

Murray, 59, was not present at the hearing.

The former doctor of the King of Pop has been serving his four year sentence in solitary confinement at the Los Angeles County Jail.

Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for injecting Jackson with a lethal amount of the drug propofol.

Despite receiving the maximum sentence, Murray will likely serve only half of his four-year jail sentence due to a recent change in California law that allows non-violent felony offenders to serve their time in county jail instead of state prison.

Officials from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said the cardiologist would more than likely be released in two years due to factors such as jail overcrowding.

After Murray's November sentencing, District Attorney Steve Cooley said he was considering asking the judge to modify the sentence so Murray's crime could be reclassified as a serious felony, which would send him into the state prison system where he would serve the entire four years of his sentence.

"This is going to be a real test of our criminal justice system to see if it's meaningful at all," Cooley said at a news conference after the sentencing.

At Murray's sentencing, Pastor rip into the doctor calling his treatment of Jackson a "cycle of horrible medicine" and "medicine madness."

Murray treated Jackson like a "medical experiment," the judge said, which factored into his decision to hand down the maximum sentence.

It all boils down to the fact that Murray would not be in jail had he not violated his Hippocratic oath by becoming a drug dealer. Sure MJ is responsible for his death, but Murray bears some resposibility as well. Yes, if he had walked away MJ would have found someone else, but if Murray had walked away he wouldn't be in jail, would he?

HE MESSED HIS SELF UP----leaving micheal alone with 'the milk' (as he called it), especailly, knowing that he was addicted so bad he called it a name....I dont care how much money you have, a doctor license should make him/her pulled the trigger, just like they would if we got hooked on prescription medication

Why should he be able to post bail and get out of jail because he appeals a conviction? I guess all them drug dealers and gang bangers doing 20 to life should be able to get out and be free because they are appealing their convictions, right? What a different set of rules there are for people who have money and political friends. Good for the judge for denying this POS freedom. By the way, since when is murder or contributory death, considered a *non-violent* crime?

My pretty little drug addict niece gets pain pills prescribed on a regular basis and stays doped up constantly. I'm an old lady who never uses them, yet when I was in major pain with kidney stones, it took forever to just get a shot for relief.

That "doctor" is a sleaze head. But Michael Jackson was the one asked for the drugs, nobody forced him to take it. If Jackson had not died of that drug and from that doctor he would have soon died of some other drug concoction obtained somewhere else. You can't protect these leftist California show business types from themselves by putting others in jail.

Please, if this quack hadn't done it, Michael would have found another one, and would have died the same way. Michael was a drug abuser and died they way drug abusers normally do...abusing drugs. This quack will probably be released real quick once he goes to jail, as he'll be a high value target for any gang member. He'll have to be kept in solitary for the entire length of his sentence, and that means a higher cost of incarceration. But in California, a judge has no control over how long you serve your sentence, it it up to the Bureau of Prisons, and they can let you go in one week and the judge can't do squat about it.

finally some level headed judge; got to be praised because the head judge says lying is freedom of speech; therefore George Washinton abridged his own rights; therefore a bad precedent; then how could he have been the founding father of this great nation?

How can they say he is a "non-violent felony"? He killed a man. The way I see it it dont get much violent then that. Even thou Micheal Jackson was an addict this so called doctor was his drug dealer! He needs to stay right where he is. Life in prision would had been a much better sentence!

At Murray's sentencing, Pastor rip into the doctor calling his treatment of Jackson a "cycle of horrible medicine" and "medicine madness." It is ripped, Newcomb, not rip. Use the fugging correct tense or stop writing.

He is a Killer!!! Just because he is a Doctor-or was, doesn't mean he had to keep all those drugs in his own possession. Those drugs by law should have been kept at the hospital.

Listen I so don't think this guy Murray is a hard core criminal at all. Yes yes his judgement was way out of line and did cause the death of MJ, however license revoked and jail time for what ever the lenghth of the crime is , but really he does not need to go into the hell hole of a major prison really. His life is ruined, his career is over and will really have not too much when and if he comes out. MJ would of died soon, if not with Murray with some other person who would listen to him, he was such a mess, dear god, I think he's better off where he is. I'm sorry for the kids, but they ALL seem to be doing just fine, and seem to have a happy go lucky life, and for that MJ should really rest in peace.
