Lets also keep in mind that the chances of the family taking insults were pretty low back then. Most never left the farm. Home school farmers. The people they knew probably never gave it a second notice. We all now live in a society that has to look down on people with disformities know matter what the reasons.Personaly I would have prefered living and dieing in those times.

I know this family. Benjy is still living and resides in Alaska. He is happily married to a woman from there and is very successful in life. His sister is an elementary school teacher aand they are beautiful people. Very intelligent!

my son and his wife live in bellingham and never mentioned it. I'm sure he is a very wonderful person who just has different skin color. I'm sure he doesn't like it any better than the rest of them out there, just something he has to deal with it. God bless his strength.

Really, I grew up in Bellingham and visit family there all the time. Interesting. I'll have to watch for him the next time I'm up there.

I grew up about 30 minutes south of there and never heard of a blue man. That is very interesting. Next time I go up there to visit my father in law, I'm going to ask around. I am fascinated by the curiosities of nature.

I am from Southern West Virginia and I know of a family that lives in Odd, WV that are blue. They get tormented by "normal" people because they are inbreed. They do have severe issues because of the inbreeding. People would drive down there to see them and the family would throw things at your car. It is kind of a long running joke around here but it is sad. In fact if I am not mistaken it is illegal now to go near their property.

The gawkers should be charged with invasion of privacy and thrown in jail for one week without any parole ( and no free meals). And if one of the gawkers gets injured or possily shot, no charges laid.

I understand there is a science to it all. I'd also like to know what the benefits could be having this condition. Perhaps genetically there was a need or use for it eons ago. I find this interesting and although I know the family may not be happy, I admire them.

This is what's we called "creepy cool" growing up lol. I would love to see one of those people in real life. This is the most interesting thing I've seen in the news in a long time.

Its a miracle of God! See people come in all different colors & they are the same as everyone else! We all put our pants on the same, one leg at a time :)
  • leslie f  •  Oklahoma City, Oklahoma  •  2 months ago
ok, i too feel sorry for the way people treat them, but not "for" them because there's nothing to be sorry for. but seriously, to be white and turn blue when angry that would be so cool. is there a green gene that would do it? you wouldn't like me when i'm angry!

I'd heard of them, but never read an article or saw pictures. Hazard is about 60 miles from us. Living in the Appalachia, I can see how a remote location could lead to potential (although not purposeful) inbreeding. In the county where we live, just about everyone is related by blood or marriage. We're the outsiders and they are rather skeptical of us. It's been that way for hundreds of years--you just learn to live with it. Kentucky is a beautiful state with amazing diversity. I'm glad I'm a resident of it now.

these kinds of things are very good to know. It proves we live in a wprld that nothing is common, and if just learn to love and trust one another and believe in God and each it makes a difference. "Mans inhumanity to Man"
