Met Ball 2013: Costume Institute Punk Exhibition Preview

All eyes will be on the red carpet at annual Met Ball tonight, where stars will sport high-fashions inspired by the punk movement. This year’s punk gala theme is drawn from the brand new spring exhibition, “Punk: Chaos to Couture,” organized by the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Featuring 100 designs for men and women, the exhibit showcases punk’s surprising influence on high fashion from the 1970s to today. “Since its origins, punk has had an incendiary influence on fashion,” Costume Institute Curator Andrew Bolton in a press release. “Designers continue to appropriate punk’s aesthetic vocabulary to capture its youthful rebelliousness and aggressive forcefulness.” The exhibit is open to the public from May 9 through Aug. 14, 2013 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
