Powerball: Rhode Island Vendor of Winning $336 Million Ticket Announced

Lottery officials announced this morning that the winning Powerball ticket worth $336.4 million was sold at a Stop & Shop in the tony enclave of Newport, R.I., though the winner has not yet come forward.

The supermarket is located at 250 Bellevue Ave. in Newport, lottery officials said during a press conference today.

Over the weekend, it was announced that the winner of the Saturday night drawing was from Rhode Island, but the location of the ticket sale had not yet been disclosed.

If the winner chooses the cash option, the lump sum payment will be a record $210 million, the highest cash jackpot ever for the Powerball game.

The winner made a $9 wager and has one year to claim the ticket before it expires, a spokeswoman for the lottery said.

The winning jackpot numbers drawn Saturday were 1-10-37-52-57, with a Powerball of 11.

Due to increasing sales atter ticket prices doubled to $2, the Powerball grand prize more than doubled from $173.5 million on Feb. 1, the AP reports. This was the third-largest jackpot in the history of the game.

The top prize for this week's drawing is down to $40 million.

While it's a nice idea, anyone who instantly gains that kind of money needs to consult a financial planner & an attorney. You can't simply give out 100's of thousands of dollars without huge tax consequences to both yourself and those who you are trying to be nice to. This is why a large percentage of people who win lotteries are dead broke two years later.

I think Lottery winning's should be taxed at the capital gains rate (15%) better yet, not at all. After all, that dollar a guy spent for that ticket, the tax was Already paid !

Dear guy that just won 336 million before taxes, move far far away and do not tell a soul about this. And heed these lessons from past winners(losers)
    1. You can say NO to requests for handouts from complete strangers or relatives that want you to invest in their "dream" of owning a small business.
2.Don't buy ten houses without first considering the long term costs of property taxes, utilities and upkeep.
    3. DO NOT identify yourself if you don't want to get hit with lawsuits whether they are genuine or not.
    4. PAY the taxman immediately! We all saw how not getting around to that worked out for Richard Hatch when he won a million in the first Survivor.
    5. DO give to charity, gotta pay it forward.
    6. Manage your money and make it work for you, make more money from your money.

But with all that being said....can I borrow a cool million?

THIS JUST IN TO OUR NEWSROOMS....The State of Rhode island today invoked a long dormant $335,999.00 tax on lottery tickets, on anyone who won anything over the past year that bought any ticket at a Stop and Shop.

We don't know that it's only one winner. It could have been a pool, like when office workes chip in to buy tickets. However, the fact that only 3 games were played suggests it was one person.

    Cogratulations to the winner.

Please be careful and do not disclose your name and family info. A blind trust will protect you from the goons that are just waiting... some have been posting here.

Enjoy and be a giver. Be blessed.

shouldn't we have 336 winners making a million each instead of 1 big winner...this way more people win and it helps the economy..
