Powerball: Unidentified Rhode Island Player Wins $336 Million

Someone in Rhode Island purchased the winning $336.4 million Powerball lottery jackpot ticket, but has not yet claimed the prize.

The winner has not stepped forward and the lottery has not yet announced where in Rhode Island the ticket was purchased, according to The Associated Press.

The winning jackpot numbers were drawn Saturday and belong to a Rhode Island player, according to the Powerball website.

A Rhode Island lottery spokesperson did not immediately respond to request for comment.

The winning numbers were 1-10-37-52-57, with a Powerball of 11.

Due to increasing sales, the Powerball grand prize has more than doubled from its $173.5 million on Feb. 1, the AP reports. The top prize for next week is down to $40 million.

If i won all that money, i wouldnt tell anyone expect those close to me & no one would take my photo to publish every where. As you would go from unknown to Donald Trump over night.

Most states require you to come forward and accept the money personally. There are very few states where you can send an alternate (lawyer, etc) to pick up the money and keep you anonymous.

Hopefully it will be a well deserving person who plans to use much of it to better the lives of others in need. I know I would.

Why do 2 people dislike that you hope they will use it to better people's lives?

Who ever places the $2 BET on Powerball or any other lotto has the same chance as anyone else in winning the jackpot. A rich person, a poor person and everyone in between. Anyone saying that someone deserves a jackpot more than the next person is only bringing emotions into it. And nobody has the right to tell people what to do with THEIR money. These people who win such an amount pay taxes at a rate that the majority of the people on the planet can't even comprehend. So congratulations to whoever won the jackpot. You took the same chance as everyone else who placed a BET. If you're already rich, I won't judge you. If you're poor, I won't judge you. And if you're someone in between, I won't judge you. Do whatever you want with YOUR money. Regardless of what anyone tells you, IT IS YOUR MONEY. And thank you for paying such a massive amount of taxes to help keep our society going...

At least someone from a remote location has won for a change. A Rhode Island Powerball winner is a rare as a South Carolina Powerball or Mega Millions winner. There seems to be 3-5 states that win most of the time. Congratulations to the NEW RHODE ISLAND MILLIONAIRE! God Bless!

I live in Tampa and have family in Rhode Island - I spoke to them. The ticket was sold in Newport - Stop & Shop market right on Bellvue Ave - lets hope some greedy rich person who lives in one of those mansions, didn't win this huge amount of money.

It's probably a tourist, if it was sold in Newport.

Not usually this time of year, Newport is kind of a ghost town in the winter, too windy and cold to go anywhere, but locally, that's the rumor...possibly from New Jersey. Fabulous.

Lucky person for sure. Nothing better than winning or having enough money to get out of New England, especially Rhode Island. Congrats to the winner.

It is also possible that the winner will never step forth. If you do a search, you will find that a number of lottery prizes have never been claimed. It is generally speculated that the ticket was lost, but I recall at least one case of someone choosing not to claim the prize and donating the money back to support education.
