Dust off your roasting racks and grab your thermometers — it’s time for Thanksgiving. Here we list the kitchen tools and gadgets you should gather before tackling the big meal.
For the turkey:
Roasting rack (pick something sturdy with handles to avoid your turkey taking unwanted flight)
Carving knife
Carving fork
Fat separator (an easy way to make gravy)
Turkey baster or flavor injector
Cutting/carving board
Thermometer (a thermometer is a kitchen essential. Sometimes that white pop-up thing on the turkey just doesn’t move)
Brining bag (if you plan on brining your bird)
Whisk (for silky smooth gravy)
For the sides:
Casserole dishes (if it’s microwave-safe, that’s even better)
Slow cooker (this just makes life easier.)
Sheet pans
Large pots
Potato ricer (fluffy mashed potatoes aren’t a figment of your imagination)
Tongs (a big help with turning roasting vegetables)
Serving spoons
For dessert:
Pie dishes
Spatula
Rolling pin
Knife for cutting pie
Cooling rack
Pie weights
Pastry brush (for getting rid of extra flour on your crust or brushing the dough with egg whites)
