Where to Occupy: A New York May Day Protest Map

There are almost too many Occupy-related plans for May 1 in New York, which Occupy hopes will launch its spring resurgence. To keep it all in order, we've put together a map of the locations where you can expect protest actions on the Tuesday,

For the sake of simplicity, we haven't included every single event at every location. Indoor events, such as the Building Community Alternatives to Capitalism Day skillshare at the Launchpad, in Brooklyn, didn't get their own markers because they're not happening outside in otherwise empty public space. We didn't include a separate marker for each event happening at the same location. And we didn't drop a marker for each of the picket lines because there are simply too many of them, and each is specific enough to a union campaign that they're unlikely to garner the kinds of crowds the general Occupy Wall Street events will. But you can learn all about them at the 99 Picket Lines Tumblr.

Overall, the best roundup of events is at the Occupy Wall Street site, which has a detailed list not only of the day's planned activities, but links out to organizers of each action, a list of the planed picket lines, and a handy checklist of what to bring if you're planning on participating.

If you simply want to avoid the crowds, you'll want to steer clear of Bryant Park during the day, and Union Square during the afternoon and evening, followed by the Wall Street area after about 7 p.m. The vague plan is to start in Bryant Park, have a day of events, head down to Union Square starting at about 2 p.m. for a 4 p.m. rally, then march to Wall Street at about 5:30 p.m. But there are plenty of other related events going on, as you can see on the map:
