Whitney Houston's Death: Ray J Turned Away From Hotel Room, Report

Musician Ray J was reportedly turned away from Whitney Houston's hotel room when he rushed to the Beverly Hilton Hotel after learning of her death.

Ray J was at home when he found out Houston had been found dead in her hotel room bathtub and he immediately went to hotel to try to see her, TMZ reports. He was reportedly turned away by law enforcement and not allowed in the room.

Sources told TMZ that Ray J was "crushed" by Houston's death.

Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina and cousin Dionne Warwick were also both reportedly turned away from the hotel room when they tried to get in to see Houston.

Questions about Houston's relationship with Ray J, Kim Kardashian's ex-boyfriend and sex tape partner, re-surfaced this week after the two were spotted having dinner in Los Angeles.

The two were seen leaving Los Angeles restaurant Le Petit Four on Feb. 3. The two were linked as early as 2010, following Houston's 2007 divorce from Bobby Brown.

Ray J is notorious for his relationship with Kardashian, which led to his own reality TV romance show, "For the Love of Ray J." He is also the brother of singer Brandy, who played Cinderella to Houston's fairy godmother in the television remake of the classic fairytale.

Ian Drew, senior editor at Us Weekly, told ABCNews.com that Ray J and Houston dated on and off for several years.

"He was her big eyebrow-raising relationship after Bobby [Brown]," Drew said.

Ray J, 31, appeared on "The Insider" on Friday to promote his new advice book "Death of the Cheating Man." In the interview, he was repeatedly pressed for information on his relationship with Houston.

"You know, they blow this thing out of proportion. I mean, that's my friend. I've been knowing her for years and years and years, and she's a friend of the family," he said on the show. "I have a lot of love for her and I have a lot of respect for her."

Ray J remained coy when pressed on whether his relationship with Houston, 48, was more that platonic.

"Our friendship is something that people might not understand, maybe because of the age difference, but we've always just been friends," Ray J said. "We hug, we laugh, we go out to dinner. ... We talk about, you know, different things in our lives and she's a cool person."

When asked directly if his relationship with Houston was physical, he again deflected.

"We've always kept our relationship as private as we could, but when we go out, she's such an icon, it reaches the masses," Ray J said. "But, for the most part, we've always been friends and we've kept everything hush-hush and just quiet and we really don't focus on that."

Ray J's agents did not immediately respond to ABC News' requests for comment.

Ray J has not yet commented on Houston's death and his Twitter account has been silent since Saturday morning. His last tweet was a happy birthday message for his sister, Brandy, and the tweet before that included three photos and the message, "Im with Clive Davis helping with the party 2mrw nite."

In one photo, Ray J and Davis were sitting side-by-side in a ballroom, presumably at the Beverly Hilton, where the party took place and where Houston died. The two were facing the stage and surrounded by stacks of chairs and tables that had yet to be set.

The second photo is of musicians rehearsing on stage and the third is of Ray J and Davis smiling and posing with a woman.

Houston had seen Ray J as recently as Thursday night, when both attended Grammy nominee Kelly Price's party, "Kelly Price and Friends Unplugged: For the Love of R&B Grammy Party," at the Los Angeles nightclub Tru Hollywood.

Houston was there with her 19-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, and performed a duet with Price in the early hours of Friday morning, in what would become her last performance.

At the party, Houston reportedly clashed with singer and former "X Factor" finalist Stacy Francis, who had credited Houston as her inspiration and had been pulled onstage to sing with her in 1999 during a concert, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Houston and Francis were re-introduced at the party and all seemed fine until Ray J entered the conversation.

"Whitney just got belligerent," a witness told The Hollywood Reporter. "Ray was trying to defend Stacy, telling Whitney, 'Stacy's family!', but Whitney was feeling crowded out and hands were raised."

The witness said that no punches were ultimately thrown, but that it was a tense exchange.

Photos taken later that night showed Houston disheveled, agitated and bloated as she left, and she reportedly had to be escorted from the club with blood dripping down her leg and scratches on her wrist.

Friends said she was simply sweating from the performance.

"There was nothing wrong. She was singing, she was dancing, she was laughing, she was playing," Price said. "I'm going to remember her just like that because that's the Whitney I always had the pleasure of being around."

On Saturday afternoon, Houston's lifeless body was discovered in her bathroom at the Beverly Hilton, where she was planning to attend friend and mentor Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party. A cause of death has not yet been determined.

ABC News' Luchina Fisher contributed to this report.

I concur. I have witnessed Ray J at a party here in Atlanta and he was completely high and drunk. He was so unruly that the Radio Station host had to take the mic away from him.

Whitney should be remembered for the tremendous talent she was. Her voice was pure. Most vocalists these days are lacking in real natural ability.....using amplification & other means to TRY to make them sound good. Whitney didn't need that as she was a gifted singer. Many could learn from her talent & also from the loss of her life at a young age. Let it be food for thought. It did not need to happen. Her voice will live on forever. No one has sung our national anthem like she did......straight forward with no embellishments to distort it.
Beautiful voice & a beautiful face too.

Unfortunately she wasted all her talent and chose drugs. Sadly this is how most will remember her.

its real sad of course to see someone with talent from GOD and like so many recieved much, maybe more than they could handle, money and fame inspires things like pride that is so hard to live free from once it's has your heart, I hope that wasn't Whitiny's heart

The police and coroner are in control of a death scene. There is a reason for this. Evidence tampering. It could have been murder, suicide or accidental. Securing a scene as quickly as possible with the least amount of interference is required. So get off your high horse about "daughter having every right to see her mom". Or any of her boyfriends, ex-husband, mother, aunts, cousins etc. etc...they would add nothing to the scene but confusion. But I guess my biggest question is, why would anyone want to see a dead body???? I've seen plenty in my medical profession and it is reality. It's not Hollywood nor is it comforting.

She was dead. What was the daughter wanting to see?

What I want to know is why did the aunt wait 30 mins before calling hotel security? Why not call 911 immediately?

It's easy to say these things when it's not your loved ones. No matter if my Mother, Father whomever I'm closely related to......although I understand that police have to secure the scene still doesn't stop the fact that as your loved one you would feel the same as her baby did.

During my teenage years, Whitney was our Beyonce! I will not comment on her demons because we all have them in some shape or form. I would like to say that regardless of how we may feel and to be honest, it really doesn't matter, because none of of us actually knew her in person- she was a mother, daughter, sister, cousin and friend. She has left a tremendous impact on the musical community; as well as, her family and friends. Whitney, was one of the best perfomers of her era. We should be respectful of her daughter and mother because this will have the greatest impact on them, as well as, her other immediate family. May our FATHER wrap his arms around them in their time of need- especially Bobbi- Kristina-because Whitney was her mother before anything and she is only 18 years / not even a woman yet, just a child yearning for her mother.

You know and it was not necessary to show blood dripping down her legs. That was a personal thing for a woman. These media people make me sick. Let the lady be in peace and stop scandalising her NAME... She brought so much to america in the music industry. Just go away !!!!!

Whitney will truly be missed. If people are not talking about you, then ur not relevant. She touched all of our lives in some way, shape, and form. R.I.P. Whitney and know that you still live on through your music, daughter, and fans.

The more they report..the weirder this story sounds...it's a crazy world out here, we have to open our eye's and see what it really going on. Fame is a curse....yeah you have a lot of money but at what cost?? Without fame, our sister would probably still being singing in the church choir blessing everyone that heard her. So when you pray, pray for health and strength. You may not have a mansion, but thank God for the roof over your head. Realize what is really important..you know things like your sanity...the fact that you still have the activity of your limbs.....I am still hurting so bad from this, but while we all hurt, let's also learn from this...

People are interesting... Everyone wants to speculate and think they're right with their argument(s) and opinion(s). Whitney never tried to hide anything; she was blunt and straight-forward with what she wanted us to know. She made mention to "she being her biggest devil". She knew she needed help and she tried to beat her demons, but unfortunately they pulled her under on Saturday. And now some of those same imps are here on board. smh.

If RayJ says he & Whitney was friends, why do people (non factors in their friendship) have to try and dissect what he says is the truth especially at the expense of [his friend] Whitney's death.

Who said the daughter is a drug abuser? So to see you go Whitney, I hope you finally have peace. I can't help thinking, what if she married a nice guy, someone that never did drugs how much would her life have been different.
