How olive oil could lower risk of dementia mortality
From vegetables and legumes to fish and fresh herbs, Mediterranean ingredients provide a wide array of health benefits, and the Mediterranean diet is consistently ranked the top overall diet. Now, researchers have found new health associations between consuming more than 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil a day and lower risk of dementia-related death. According to a new study published Monday in the journal JAMA Network Open, researchers from Harvard School of Public Health followed the dietary decisions of 92,383 health care professionals over 28 years and found that those who incorporated more olive oil of any kind into their diet lowered their probability of dying from dementia.

Biden withheld bomb shipment to Israel out of fears it could be used in Rafah: Source
The Biden administration opted to pause a shipment of some 3,500 bombs to Israel last week because of concerns the weapons could be used in Rafah where more than one million civilians are sheltering "with nowhere else to go," a senior administration official told ABC News. Other weapon transfers from the U.S. to Israel -- including the sale of Joint Direct Attack Munition, or JDAM kits -- are being closely scrutinized as part of a larger review of U.S. military aid to Israel that began last April, the official said. The decision to pause the shipment and consider slow-walking others is a major shift in policy for the Biden administration and the first known case of the U.S. denying its close ally military aid since the Israel-Hamas war began.

While the 1968 protests were against the Vietnam War, activists today are blaming President Joe Biden for his support of Israel's military operations in Gaza -- and some have expressed intentions to disrupt the party's plan to nominate him this summer for a second term.

Mom shares warning after daughter's arm gets stuck in elevator
A mom is sharing a warning for other parents after her daughter's arm was caught in an elevator last year. Garatziotis said her daughter Zoe, then 5, had her hand on the elevator door when the elevator they were traveling in started opening up on the seventh floor. "Me and my friend Jen grabbed the elevator [door] so it wouldn't pull her in more and my friend Nicole was with her down there trying to figure out how to get her arm out," Garatziotis told New York ABC station WABC.

57 million people in tornado storm zone as giant hail, destructive winds and flash flooding possible
There have been more than 40 reported or confirmed tornadoes across nearly a dozen states since Monday, as the threat continues Wednesday. There were at least 21 confirmed tornadoes on Monday across six states -- Tennessee, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Nebraska. Tuesday saw another 20 reported tornadoes across five states -- Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Arkansas -- with more surveys expected to take place later Wednesday.

Bruce Willis' wife says family 'desperately needed' support after dementia diagnosis
Emma Heming Willis is opening up about how sharing her husband Bruce Willis' frontotemporal dementia or FTD diagnosis in 2023 impacted her. "I could breathe, you know, I could really exhale and sort of just feel this weight sort of lift from my shoulders but everything changed for the better once we were able to disclose his diagnosis," Heming Willis said in a video shared Tuesday by The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration at their 2024 Education Conference. "I was able to see the support that I so desperately needed for my husband, for our whole family," the 45-year-old added.

What to know about the new AI data center in Wisconsin
President Joe Biden is set to announce on Wednesday a $3 billion investment by tech giant Microsoft to build an artificial intelligence data center in southeast Wisconsin. The sprawling facility will be located on the same plot of land where, in 2018, former President Donald Trump announced a multi-billion dollar investment by Taiwanese company Foxconn that largely failed to materialize. An appeals court in Georgia has agreed to take up former President Donald Trump's appeal of the Fani Willis disqualification ruling that ultimately allowed her to remain on the Georgia election interference case -- a move that could significantly delay the case against the former president. The Georgia Court of Appeals, in a one-page order, said they would grant the request to review the ruling from Judge Scott McAfee. Trump and his codefendants now have 10 days to file the appeal.

Prince Harry returns to London with no plans to see King Charles
Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, will not see his father King Charles III while he is in London to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, ABC News has confirmed. A spokesperson for the duke told ABC News on Tuesday that Charles' schedule does not allow time for him to see his younger son, who now lives in the United States. "It unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty's full programme," the spokesperson said of a meeting between Harry and Charles.

More than a year after her friends and former roommates were killed in an off-campus house in Idaho, Ashlin Couch said she wished she could have said a proper goodbye. Couch had lived until May 2022 in the sixth bedroom in an off-campus house on King Road in Moscow, Idaho. Four University of Idaho students were killed in the house months later, in November 2022.

2 people and their dog killed when their mobile home explodes in middle of the night
Two people and their dog have been killed after their mobile home exploded in the middle of the night, police said. The explosion occurred at approximately 3:54 a.m. in the 8200 block of 85th Avenue in Mille Lacs County, some 80 miles north of Minneapolis, and authorities from the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office began receiving multiple emergency calls reporting the blast, according to a statement released by the sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived on scene, they discovered a “large debris field from an apparent explosion which was still on fire at the time,” authorities said.

A 34-year-old Idaho man has been imprisoned for at least 30 years after "purposely" trying to spread HIV through sexual contact with both men and teenage boys, prosecutors say. This investigation began in August 2023 as a child enticement case, according to the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office in Idaho, when Alexander Louie initially began an online sexual conversation with who he believed was a 15-year-old boy but was actually an undercover Ada County Sheriff’s Detective.

Taylor, a 25-year-old woman from Maryland, was a freshman in high school when she received a message on Facebook asking if she had ever sent a nude photo. What followed next were thousands of messages, threats and demands for nude photos from the person on the other side of the computer, a person whose identity Taylor did not know. Now Taylor, who asked that her last name not be used to protect her privacy, says she is sharing her story of being a victim of sextortion in hopes of educating parents and kids and helping prevent what happened to her from happening to anyone else.

Esteban Prado, a 24-year-old long distance runner, led for almost all of the 2 hours, 24 minutes and 54 seconds that he was on the 26.2 mile course of the Orange County Marathon in southern California on Saturday. The issue wasn’t the fact that he was drinking the water but rather when he accepted it. "During yesterday’s Hoag OC Marathon, we were forced to disqualify a participant after it was confirmed they received unauthorized assistance from an individual on a bicycle, in violation of USA Track & Field rules and our race regulations,” said Race Director Gary Kutschar in a statement obtained by ABC News.

Russia targets Ukrainian energy infrastructure in sweeping assault in 6 regions
Ukrainian energy facilities in six regions were bombarded early Wednesday by a Russian air attack, an hourslong strike that included dozens of missiles and drones, Ukrainian officials said. Russia launched at least 21 attack drones, including Iranian-made Shahed drones, along with about 55 missiles, Ukrainian military officials said. Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses downed 20 of the drones and about 39 other projectiles, the Air Force of Ukraine said in a statement.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has declared a state of emergency in areas of Michigan due to the tornadoes that hit the area Tuesday. The National Weather Service issued the first tornado emergency on record for Michigan on Tuesday, as severe weather impacted the region. Multiple tornado warnings were in effect for southeast Michigan Tuesday evening.
