Phillip Phillips's Big Surprise for Girl Who Asked Him to Prom

Carly Meyers is a big Phillip Phillips fan, so much so that she covered one of his hits to invite him to her high school prom.

In her YouTube invite, posted April 6, a guitar-playing Meyers cleverly plays on the "American Idol" singer's hit, "Gone, Gone, Gone," changing it to "Prom, Prom, Prom."

Gracie Gold Accepts Prom Date Offer: 'I Would Love To'

"Phillip, if you're free May 16 I'll be the one in the red dress :)," Meyers, a senior at Gill St. Bernard's School in Gladstone, N.J., wrote in the video's description.

Meyers appeared live on "GMA" today as part of the show's "Epic Prom Week" and said she wrote the song for fun but "secretly" hoped her own "Idol" would see it.

"When I thought of my dream prom date, I just always thought of him," Meyers said. "I love writing songs. I love his songs. So I thought I'd kind of put it together. [I] did it for fun, although secretly hoping he'd see it."

Phillips did see the video, along with over 2,000 other people who had viewed it as of Wednesday night.

Prom-Goers Fall in Creek Posing for Bridge Photo

In a video that aired today on "GMA," Phillips addressed Meyers directly, telling her he'd seen her prom proposal, and adding that, "It sounded so lovely."

Phillips told Meyers that he is unable to make her prom but then surprised her with tickets for her and her friends to his show July 12 at the PNC Bank Arts Center in New Jersey.

Meyers, who had just not only spoken eloquently about her dream date but also performed a bit of her song, was rendered speechless after seeing Phillips, gasping and clasping her hand to her mouth.
