'Blossom' Star Mayim Bialik Injured in Car Crash

Actress Mayim Bialik, who gained fame in the 90s sitcom “Blossom” and now appears in “The Big Bang Theory,” was injured in a car accident today in Los Angeles.

Bialik was driving alone in a car when it was struck by another vehicle that was carrying three tourists from out of the country, Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Karen Rayner told ABC News this evening.

The crash, which Rayner described as a "near head-on collision," took place at about noon near Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. No citations were issued.

Bialik, 36, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries she sustained to her left hand and thumb. The occupants of the other car had minor abrasions. They were not taken to the hospital.

In a statement, a representative for the actress said Bialik had been in  "a minor car accident ... she is doing fine and will be returning to work tomorrow. She thanks everyone for their concern. "

A few hours ago, the actress sent the following tweet: "(husband typing) In pain but will keep all my fingers. If u wanna See pre accident me watch The Soup tonight lol #joelmchale @thesoup"

After starring in "Blossom," Bialik studied neuroscience at UCLA, where she received her Ph.D. in 2007.

She has two young sons, and is the author of the parenting guidebook, "Beyond the Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way."
