Christina Applegate Leaves 'Up All Night'
The NBC comedy "Up All Night," which is currently on hiatus as it undergoes a format change, has lost its leading lady.
Deadline.com reported Friday that Christina Applegate is leaving the series. She said in a statement, "It's been a great experience working on Up All Night, but the show has taken a different creative direction and I decided it was best for me to move on to other endeavors."
"Up All Night," which starred Applegate as a talk show producer raising a baby with her husband, played by Will Arnett, is ditching the single-camera format it used for one and a half seasons. It is expected to return this spring as a multi-camera comedy shot in front of a live studio audience.
The series has undergone a lot of turnover in the past year. Applegate's departure comes one month after series creator/executive producer Emily Spivey announced she was leaving and last May, Jon Pollack, the original showrunner, left.
NBC may pursue former 'Friend's star Lisa Kudrow to replace Applegate, Deadline reported.
The future of "Up All Night" isn't the network's only concern for its spring schedule. It just cancelled its new drama "Do No Harm" after two episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show, about a neurosurgeon with an evil alter ego, attracted just 2.2 million viewers last Thursday.
