Golden State Warriors rookie Klay Thompson might not have thought about the repercussions after he got into a fight during Tuesday night's game against the Indiana Pacers, one of which was that his father would take away his allowance.
In addition to the National Basketball Association's fine against Thompson, 23, for $35,000, his father and former NBA player Mychal Thompson told ESPN Radio that the "dumb" action would cost his son.
Thompson's paychecks are made out to his father and mother, who are managing his finances.
Mychal Thompson said he will understand the repercussions, when "he sees that cash envelope show up a little short this week."
"I was like 'you idiot'!" Mychal Thompson said about his son.
His father also revealed that Thompson's rent is $3,000 a month and "walking around money $300 a week."
Thompson wasn't the only Warrior to receive a punishment after Tuesday night's brouhaha. Teammates David Lee and Roy Hibbert were suspended for one game each. Both those players plus Stephen Curry and Lance Stephenson were fined $35,000.
It's not the first time Mychal Thompson, a former Laker, spoke publicly about fathering his son through tough times.
In 2011, when Thompson was a star basketball player at Washington State and was cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession, his father was candid about his feelings toward his son.
"I want to hug my son and I want to punch his lights out. Or do both," Mychal Thompson said, according to the Los Angeles Times. "I'm just so mad. Maybe he's too old to be spanked, just turning 21 a month ago, but I sure feel like spanking him."
