ABC News Correspondent Says 'Yes to the Dress'

It's the moment many little girls dream of, but not me.

Wedding dresses are the antithesis of my style. Instead of fru-fru or frilly, I prefer jeans and a comfy T-Shirt. While I do look forward to the wedding and the marriage, buying the dress felt like a chore. I just wanted to cross it off the list of things to do, and quickly!

So when I was offered the opportunity to go on TLC's " Say Yes to the Dress," I said, "Yes" to the request!

It seemed liked the perfect option for someone like me to seek out help from friends and family who happened to be born with an innate sense of style. Sadly, I missed out on the fashion gene.

Little did I know, it was even more of a process than I expected. The problem was not the show. The problem was ME! Anytime you have an indecisive person spending hours to make a decision about something she isn't particularly excited about, it can make for a stressful situation. It seemed like whatever I liked, my entourage (my mom, two aunts, my best friend, several longtime college friends, a make up artist and a stylist) did not like - and vice versa.

Don't get me wrong. I definitely appreciated their feedback. I just couldn't decide what I really liked and what I just liked because they did. Was it me in my head or the peanut gallery?

Things sometimes have to grow on me, but I felt like I needed to make immediate decisions right away. All the while, I was trying to keep everything is perspective. In my head I heard this mantra, "It's only a dress. It's only a dress."

In the end, it made for a great memory. It wasn't really about the dress selection.

At the risk of sounding like a walking cliche, all decked out in a white gown no less, it was the time with my family and friends that I thoroughly enjoyed. We laughed, discussed, fretted and then laughed some more.

Oh yeah, and I have finally found THE dress. I'm not sure how much they love it, but I do! And shockingly, I liked the dress on its own merit, but I also love the dress because of its name: Ethel!

Ethel is the name of my beloved grandmother, who passed away several years ago. I'm talking about the same grandmother who, according to TLC's "Long Island Medium," conveyed that I was going to wear a dress that "had something to do with her." But that's a whole other story, and a whole other reality show!

Watch the episode on "Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta" tonight on TLC at 9/8c.
