The Obamas are gearing up for their Thanksgiving feast in the White House, and now for the first time the public gets to see how the presidential turkey is prepared.

Executive chef Cris Comerford's recipe for the brine-soaked Thyme-Roasted Turkey and Turkey Gravy was released on the Obama Foodorama website, along with a few other festive side dishes.

Thanksgiving "is one of the best days of the year to be an American," the president said last year. "It's a day to count our blessings, spend time with the ones we love, and enjoy some good food and some great company."

The president and first lady have been hosting the White House Thanksgiving celebration every year since 2009. The undisclosed guest list of "adult siblings and spouses and their children, friends from Chicago and Hawaii, and White House staff and their families" must be quite extensive, as Chef Comerford will be preparing multiple organic turkeys, and the recipe requires a 20-pound bird that serves 16.

For the most part, the menu consists of your typical, traditional turkey day dishes, with many ingredients coming directly from Mrs. Obama's Kitchen Garden. In addition to the turkey, a honey baked ham is prepared. Sides include cornbread stuffing and oyster stuffing, macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and dinner roles.

In the past, the White House has shared recipes for its whipped sweet potatoes, the s weet potatoes and greens and for the cauliflower macaroni and cheese, but this is the first year the recipe for the White House kale salad is being released.

And since the president is such a pie-lover, the White House Executive Pastry Chef Bill Yosses will be preparing six different kinds of pies. The White House apple pie, cherry pie, White House huckleberry pie with blueberries, White House sweet potato pie, banana creme pie, and pumpkin pie will all be served.
