It’s a new year, which for many means it’s time for a new wardrobe. How much do you think the average American spends on clothing in a year?

In 2010, the average annual amount of money the typical American spent on clothes and services was $1700.

Over the past few years, the average American has cut back a bit when it comes to purchasing clothes.  In 2008, the average American spent $1,801 on clothes, while in 2009 the average amount spent was $1,725.  Regardless of the small changes in money spent, the purchasing of clothes and services has continued to prove it can be a costly amount.

Are you spending more or less than $1,700 on clothes each year? Weigh in on how much you’re spending at Ally Bank Straight Talk blog.
