The reigning Miss Delaware Teen USA has given up her crown after a sex video reputedly featuring her surfaced on a pornography website Monday and was reposted on YouTube.
A pageant spokesperson confirmed that 18-year-old Melissa King had resigned, and the pageant’s runner-up, 17-year-old Hailey Lawler, would succeed her.
In the video a woman, purportedly King, gives a racy interview and performs sex acts. The site claimed the woman was King, but King denied it to The News Journal.
King’s attorney, J. Gregory Hannigan, did not immediately respond to ABCNews.com’s request for comment.
“God wouldn’t give you something that you couldn’t handle. …” King tweeted Tuesday.
King also retweeted a follower who wrote, “To all the people commenting on the former miss Delaware Teen USA scandal, please remember she is a human and has feelings.”
The Miss Delaware Teen USA pageant is run by Donald Trump’s Miss Universe organization. King was crowned last November.
King, from Bethany Beach, Del., is currently a freshman at the College of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, and is studying communications, according to her biography on the Miss Delaware Teen website. In high school, she was inaugurated into the National Society of High School Scholars “due to her exceptionally high SAT scores, GPA, and AP scores,” according to the Miss Delaware Teen website.
Lawler, of Newark, Del., is a senior in high school and plans to attend St. Joseph’s University to study elementary education.
