Most people wrap their gifts and call it a day, but for this dad, finding the present is half of the fun. For the past two years, Dave Spencer, of Georgetown, Canada, has created incredibly elaborate scavenger hunts leading his two kids – Brody, 12, and Rachel, 9—to their gifts. Brody’s birthday hunt made national headlines last year when he searched high and low, “under a road” and crossing a “dangerous bridge” over a stream ultimately leading him to a treasure chest filled with $63 of Canadian coins. This year, Spencer, 42, took it one step further for Brody, with more difficult clues that required an understanding of Latin and braille, and more than anything, a whole lot of patience. Spencer’s tricks were no match for Brody’s mind, however. The hunt lasted a whopping five days and the smart birthday boy found his $80 check, just enough to buy the scooter he’d been saving up for.
