If there is an art to taking awkward family photos, then the team behind the website of the same name has nailed it, literally. Long a favorite website for laughs, AwkwardFamilyPhotos.com is now an actual art exhibit at a California museum. “Doug and I had always wanted to explore the awkward family experience in a live setting,” said Mike Bender, who created the site with his childhood friend, Doug Chernack, in 2009. The exhibit will run from March 28th to July 27th at Santa Monica’s California Heritage Museum, which Bender described as “brave enough” to take it on. The show will include not only the website’s most popular photos, but also a chance for attendees to create their own memories in the “Awkward Portrait Studio.” Bender says their ultimate goal is to take the exhibit nationwide but, until then, click through to see a sneak peak of the hilarious photos on display.
